Education
Ph.D. Candidate in Social Anthropology with Visual Media, The University of Manchester, 2018 (Expected)
Focusing particularly in female activism on the local, community and elected representative levels, my next chapter of postgraduate research seeks to gain a greater understanding of how both history and today’s culture help shape the individual and collective identity for black women in North Carolina, and how these manifest themselves in both the active and inactive involvement in the political process. This research will seek to add commentary and gather conclusions in an effort contribute to a greater understanding of the current gender and racial politics in the construction of the present-day political movements in urban areas of North Carolina, and the wider region of the South.
 
Areas of research interest include: political anthropology and representation; urban anthropology; race, gender and identity; visual anthropology and ethnographic filmmaking
 
M.A. in Anthropology, The Australian National University, 2012
Studies focused in the theory and history of anthropology, international development, visual anthropology and ethnographic filmmaking, indigenous policy, and globalization. Graduated with a 3.87 GPA.
 
B.A., Georgetown University, 2010
Majored in Women’s and Gender studies, Minor in Government, and completed the Certificate and thesis in Australian and New Zealand Studies.
 
Study Abroad program at The University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, 2008
Coursework and research completed in the fields of Australian and Pacific region history and comparative political systems with travels to socially, politically and environmentally historic sites in Darwin, Canberra, Sydney and Cairns.
 
Teaching Experience
Graduate Teaching Assistant at The University of Manchester, 2014-Present
Teaching assistant for courses that count toward the completion of the undergraduate degree Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences and Bachelor of Science in Business, teaching on the Engaging and Social Research and Introduction to Business Anthropology courses. Responsibilities include leading tutorials totaling more than 40 students a semester, marking written assessments, and providing additional advisement to students.

Professional Experience
Yvonne Holley for North Carolina House of Representatives, October 2012- September 2014              
As her Campaign Manager, I worked closely with Representative Holley to ensure that her campaign reflects her values as a candidate, proven Legislator, and life-long Raleigh resident. Provided administrative support such as maintaining constituent and donor contact databases, updating and creating campaign literature, conducting regular upkeep of the campaign’s online presence. As a Campaign Volunteer, assisted first time voters and voters who are new to North Carolina with information on the ballot, candidates and bond proposal over the early voting cycle and on election day.
 
African-American Cultural Festival of Raleigh and Wake County, February-October 2013                     
Serving as the Festival Coordinator, I assisted the Chair and Vice Chair in directing and managing the planning, fundraising for, and implementation of a multiple-day festival celebrating African American art and culture with over 25,000 attendees, more than 100 volunteers and almost 30 performing groups. As the primary Festival Administrator, I oversaw the Festival as whole to ensure cohesion in vision, planning, execution; and as a result, saw record breaking corporate fundraising and public attendance
 
Office of Academic Affairs at the Community College of the District of Columbia, July 2010-May 2011
As Staff Assistant to the Dean of Academic Affairs, I assisted the Dean with interviewing, selecting and scheduling Adjunct faculty and Visiting Assistant Professors, established office procedures for the Office of Academic Affairs, and carried out administrative tasks including producing official correspondence, maintaining office records, and assigned courses and classroom spaces for more than 150 faculty members across four campuses.
 
Internships and Work-Study
United States Senate, January-May 2011
Intern for Majority office in the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, chaired by then Senator John Kerry (D-MA), whose responsibilities and interests included research and writings on the reauthorization of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2008, Haitian refugee camps, conflict and human rights issues in Northern Africa and the Middle East, women’s health and trafficking in Asia. 

Congressional Liaison Office, Embassy of Australia, May-August 2009
Researched Australian interests in domestic and foreign affairs, including trade, immigration, defense, and social issues, and produced both classified and non-classified documents for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; and developed regional specialization in Asia and the Pacific, and an understanding of Australia’s multifaceted ties to New Zealand, Japan, China, the Pacific Islands and the United States. 

Office of Mission and Ministry, Georgetown University, September 2007-May 2010
Aided the Vice President for Mission and Ministry in administrative tasks, event planning and donor relations, and in the organization and execution of long-term spiritual retreats, religious services, community service and fundraising efforts.​
